Thank you for your interest in South Bronx Classical Charter School.

This is our mission statement; please read it carefully:

South Bronx Classical Charter School prepares K-5th grade students in the South Bronx to excel in college preparatory middle schools.  Through a classical curriculum and highly structured setting, students become liberated scholars and citizens of impeccable character who successfully achieve proficiency in and advanced mastery of New York State Performance Standards.

This mission requires your support and we have high expectations of both you and your child.  Here are only a few of the primary expectations we have:

Full and Complete Uniforms Every Day

South Bronx Classical is a uniform school.  This means that we have a SPECIFIC uniform policy that all students MUST adhere to, EVERY DAY.

Attendance

South Bronx Classical is working hard to ensure that our scholars get the best education possible.  However, that education can't happen if students are late or absent.  We have a strict policy regarding both latenesses and absences.   Please be aware that if your child is repeatedly absent or lateness, it may result in their being held back.   In addition, when absences and latenesses are extremely high, it may constitute educational neglect under the law.   Therefore, please expect to have your child attend school ON TIME, EVERY DAY.

Strict Code of Conduct

South Bronx Classical is a safe school, but it is also a strict school.  Our behavioral expectations are high.   For example, at South Bronx Classical, hitting another student, for any reason, results in immediate suspension, regardless of intent or provocation.  We call your home and/or work immediately upon any major behavioral incident.   This allows us to feel confident that your child is also safe while in our school, or on the buses.

SBCCS accepts applications for each grade that it enrolls.  For the 2009-2010 academic year, SBCCS will enroll approximately 60 students for its entering Kindergarten class, and will create waitlists for its first, second, third and fourth grades.  To be eligible for Kindergarten, the student must turn age five (5) by December 31, 2009, and thus be born in the year 2004.  Any child who is legally qualified for admission into any New York State public school is also qualified for admission, without charge, to South Bronx Classical Charter School (SBCCS).
