South Bronx Classical Charter School prepares K-8th grade scholars in the South Bronx to excel in college preparatory high schools. Through a classical curriculum and highly structured setting, students become liberated scholars and citizens of impeccable character who achieve proficiency in and advanced mastery of New York State Performance Standards.
Our Core Values permeate our mission, culture, and processes, and form those values that we hope to develop in each of our scholars.
Staff is accountable for the execution of their roles, which ultimately ensures that our focus remains mission-aligned and in the best interest of our scholars. Parents are accountable for their scholar’s education and adhere to our non-negotiables, more fully described below. We believe that progress is made when all stakeholders are accountable for their actions and the achievement of their goals.
Our schools are built on the best practices of high-performing charter schools that came before us. A culture of introspection is paramount to our success. We should always ask ourselves, “is this best for my scholar?”, “how can I improve?” and “what are other schools and educators doing really well?” Stagnant organizations fall behind and thus innovation must be the norm.
Educators should be as highly-esteemed and as rigorously evaluated as are other professionals (e.g., doctors, lawyers) and should conduct themselves with similar integrity. A culture of respect is grounded in the professionalism of our staff and scholars.
Our mission is ambitious and requires our actions to be precise and efficient. Our faculty approaches all tasks, large and small, important and seemingly inconsequential, with the significance and precision required for our scholars to succeed and for our organization to be great.
Molding scholars into “citizens of impeccable character” is incredibly challenging and difficult work. The relentless pursuit of our mission is absolutely critical to the success of our scholars. We expect our staff to have grittiness and a “do whatever it takes” tenacity to get the job done just as we expect our scholars to have a “no excuses” attitude towards their education.
We are accountable to many parties: our authorizer, the Board of Regents, our families, and our scholars. Transparency ensures that we are doing the best job possible. Internally, we are objective in our data analyses and conversations about scholars. Externally, our education and business practices are visible and explicable to all parties who have a vested interest in our success.
Compelled by our mission to be acutely responsive to our scholars’ needs, staff are urgently proactive to ensure that scholars are academically successful and are productive and independent citizens of character. No task is insignificant.
